The very first lifeboat station at Polpeor Cove on The Lizard in Cornwall was established in 1859, this is the third incarnation of the station completed in 1914. It was in operation until 1958 when the RNLI decided to close it due to operating difficulties, the new station was located at Kilcobben Cove a much more sheltered cove and is still in operation today.
